Syme Projects was founded by Peter Syme, a Melbourne-based construction professional with over twenty years of experience in the building industry.

Before establishing his own company, Peter worked with several prominent commercial building contractors, a major national property developer, and a leading project management consultancy.

Throughout his career, Peter gained extensive experience across all phases of project delivery, successfully managing and delivering projects across the commercial, medium- to high-density residential, and specialised health and scientific research sectors — from smaller $200k builds to complex projects exceeding $200 million in value.

Driven by a lifelong goal to design and build his family’s forever home, Peter transitioned from commercial construction into the high-end residential construction space after the birth of his first child.

Obtaining his Builder’s License marked the start of a new chapter — one focused on helping other families realise their dream homes with the same attention to detail and quality craftsmanship.

    Port Melbourne Residence

    Complete concept to completion project management and builder.

    Notable features of this project were the high-end finishes, overcoming complex neighbourhood character and heritage considerations during design, significant regulatory hurdles over a flood-prone site necessitating taking the council to the Building Appeals Board, as well as building in close proximity to powerlines.

    Elsternwick Residence

    Complete concept to completion project management and builder.

    Notable features of this project were the high- end finishes, overcoming complex neighbourhood character, where the council was succesfully challenged at VCAT when they pushed heritage overlay-level conditions when only a Neighbourhood Character Overlay applied.

    During construction, structural propping of the front facade was another notable project feature.

    Brighton Residence

    Project coordination and management with as an employee of the builder

    In effect, this project was a new build, however during early design & feasibility conducted by the builder, it was recognised that existing walls (that extended beyond the envelope now allowable under Rescode) could be retained. Whilst this increased construction complexity, it enabled a significantly increased floor area than was allowable under current planning regulations and a good example of how flexible and inovative thinking delivered a significant increase in value to the client.

    Project Manager/Contract Administration for the Head Contractor/Builder (Harris HMC) from Contract Award to completion.

  • Bed Bath N’ Table, Moonee Ponds

    Syme Projects provided a “turn key” service to the owner, which involved procurement of a design to meet tenant brief, obtaining planning & building permits in a heritage overlay, before completing the base building fit out as head contractor/builder.

    Client-side project management/client representation from commencement of through to contract award. Project was completed by Peter whilst he was employed by DCWC (Management) Pty Ltd.

This project included “PC4/QC4” biological containment laboratories, which required exhaustive Quality Assurance processes and commissioning testing in order to obtain regulatory approvals to handle extremely hazardous biological pathogens.

Our Process

  1. Initial contact via email or our contact form

  2. We will then email a short questionaire, to enable us to understand your project requirements.

  3. We will then arrange a meeting onsite with you to further discuss your project.

  4. We will then put forward a proposal with anticipated costs, required regulatory approvals to be obtained and estimated timeframes.

  5. If the budget cost and timeframes put forward meet your requirements, we will then prepare a detailed quotation.

  6. Contract Signing

  7. We them manage the entire process, from completion of design and obtaining the necessesary approvals, right through to construction & handover!
